Web Makeover: JUDES

INTRODUCTION

The Just Us Development Society (JUDES) at www. judesfairtrade.ca is a non-profit organization based in Nova Scotia that is committed to educating young and old about:

  • The benefits of Fair Trade for local peoples and international development
  • Social, environmental and economic issues related to community and international development
  • The power each of us has to use our purchases to promote and support social justice, community development and environmental sustainability.

You will receive a briefing from Satya Ramen, Development Coordinator for the Society.

OBJECTIVE

To reenvision, revise, redesign and generally regroove the JUDES website using Joomla.

BRIEF

Install a copy of Joomla 1.5 on your localhost and build a website that better suits the Society’s objectives. Transfer the completed website to the remote server.

METHODOLOGY

  1. Analyze the current website by listing all of the aspects of the site that Satya thinks we should keep and add those items that you think would appropriately enhance the site.
  2. Develop a specification document for client review.
  3. Build a sitemap/flowchart of the site.
  4. Develop a template (or revise one that you find online) and connect it into Joomla.
  5. Build your pages.
  6. Test, adjust, and test again.
  7. Present your site to the client and the class.

ASSESSMENT

This project is worth 50% of your total grade. Assessment will be based on your ability to deliver an effective, useful and attractive website using the Joomla CMS.
