Thesis Project Meetings

On January 20, 27, February 3, 10, 17, March 10, 24 and April 7, “Thesis Project Meetings” will be held in the seminar room at 0910 hours with a 40-minute presentation and discussion on a design topic, to be chaired by a student.

Topics will include something of interest relating to communication, product, interaction or environmental design. A projector will be available, and students may take 10 minutues to show slides or a short video, but discussion time must be no shorter than 30 minutes. The instructor will video each 40-minute session.

It is the responsiblility of the Chair to organize the discussion to ensure that it moves smoothly, without long silent periods. The Chair’s performance is assessed for the Participation grade.

Advance preparation is essential; Chairs should prepare a set of questions or other materials to provoke discussion. It is also useful if the topic has relevance to other members of the group; if it does not, the Chair must stimulate interest, otherwise it will be a very long and quiet meeting.

The instructor’s role is to record participation of the Chair and each student in the class; the Participation grade of 10% is based partly on the level of relevant activity in these meetings.

The meeting schedule, with Chair’s name and topic, is posted below. Send me your topic and preferred day by Monday, January 11. The days will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. If you procrastinate and there are no times available, then you will receive a 0 grade for Participation.
